Welcoming the world! For the "International Orchestras" series, top-flight orchestras travel to Cologne from five music capitals – Amsterdam, London, Paris, Montreal and Leipzig – mostly under the baton of their chief conductor. Some maestri are making their Kölner Philharmonie debut in this role. Daniel Harding brings his Orchestre de Paris to Cologne for the first time, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig celebrates its Cologne debut under Andris Nelsons and Sir Simon Rattle comes as the new music director of the London Symphony Orchestra. The opening concert in the series features Péter Eötvös as conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam and also as the composer of "Multiversum" for two organs and orchestra. As part of their first European tour together, Yannick Nézet-Séguin stops off in Cologne with the Orchestre Métropolitain, the orchestra he co-founded back in his student days. The series finale offers another opportunity to hear the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted this time by Michael Tilson Thomas, whose last guest appearance in Cologne was an amazing ten years ago.
