Rising Stars – The Stars of Tomorrow
A nomination for the "Rising Stars – The Stars of Tomorrow" concert series is both a great honour and a golden opportunity for any musician or ensemble, as invitations to perform in several major European concert halls are rare indeed. Individual members of ECHO, the European Concert Hall Organisation, of which the Kölner Philharmonie was a founder member, take turns in selecting brilliant young musicians as "Rising Stars". This season's line-up includes the Austrian violinist and Brahms Competition winner Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, Quatuor Van Kuijk from France and the percussionist and ARD Competition prizewinner Christoph Sietzen from Luxembourg. Every one of these musicians is both enormously accomplished and admirably versatile. For this reason and because one of the declared aims of the series is to promote the future of composition, each concert includes a short work that is given its first performance whilst the young stars are on tour.
