Piano à la polonaise
The piano seems to be more deeply associated with Poland than with any other country. This may be because Frédéric Chopin made his homeland world famous as the land of the piano not just during his lifetime but also through the piano competition that bears his name – even today the winners gain an accolade that launches them on a great career. But it may also be partly due to the musical variety with which Polish and Polish-born piano virtuosos enrich our musical life. In May Cologne welcomes no fewer than three renowned piano wizards: Piotr Anderszewski, who was born in Warsaw, the Polish-born Canadian Jan Lisiecki and the jazz star Leszek Mozdzer, who hails from Gdansk.
