Mauricio Kagel on the 10th anniversary of his death
“Music is one of the most exciting, varied, happiness-inducing activities available to man,” declared the Argentinian-German composer Mauricio Kagel when he inaugurated the Kölner Philharmonie in 1986. The fact that it was Kagel who delivered the inauguration speech surely sent the audience a strong signal that contemporary music would be given a powerful voice here. Since then, his works have been performed in over 80 concerts at the Kölner Philharmonie, and after his death on 18 September 2008, a concert was performed here in his honour. Just as a decade ago, on the 10th anniversary of Kagel's death Ensemble Musikfabrik will commemorate this pioneering composer by performing a selection of his most important works.
